Everyone knows diet and exercise are good for your body. Bottom line is if you're not having fun, you will not stick with any workout plan. The good news is there are plenty of ways to make exercise fun and something you can enjoy and look forward to doing. I know when I started playing tennis at 41 it was one of the best choices I ever made. You are never too old to compete, your level of competition drops with age but so what.
